Abstract (en)
Analyzes the remains of the Carolingian church of SS. Nereo e Achilleo, Rome (attributed to the pontificate of Leo III, 795-816), incorporated in the present structure (rebuilt in the late 15th c. and altered again in 1596-1597), in order to determine its relationship to the original Early Christian titulus. Offers a new reconstruction of the Carolingian basilica, based on previous hypotheses by Krautheimer and evidence from recent restorations. Describes the restoration of the church by Sixtus IV for the Jubilee of 1475, especially the capitals for the nave pilasters.
