Abstract (en)
In two parts: (1) Attributes to Raphael a drawing of the Nativity in front of a pronaos with a view of the nymphaeum of the Orti Licinianum, Rome (Budapest, Szépmúvészeti Muzeum, prints and drawings collection, n. 1772) and dates it to ca.1509-1510, based on comparison to Raphael's other drawings of Roman ruins. (2) Examines a series of representations of the Last Supper in an architectural setting that includes a serliana window behind the figure of Christ, beginning with Raphael's drawing n. 12745 in the Royal Library of Windsor Castle. Discusses the sources for this iconography and illustrates variants in 16th c. Italian manuscript illuminations, drawings, and frescoes.
