Identifies successive phases of the urban development of early Medieval Calabria: the Byzantine resettlement of abandoned ancient sites, rupture and reorganization under the Lombards (7th-8th cs.), partial Byzantine reconquest (9th c.), and a new phase of rapid re-abandonment (10th-11th cs.). Describes the most important cities during each period.
