Abstract (en)

Discusses Cologne artist Ralph Bageritz's Deutsche Läuterung, a 1989 series of photographic views of East Germany overpainted with names and words associated with West German society and western consumer culture. These politically motivated works were inspired by the artist's 1988 visit to his ancestral homeland in East Germany.
