Explores several art historical views on the encounter between the modern and the exotic. Discusses creativity as it relates to demands of society. Deals with the influence of African art on European artists at the beginning of the 20th c. Refers to the use Norwegian artists made of the Ethnographic Museum (at the University of Oslo), as a source of inspiration.
