Abstract (en)

Presents an illustrated cartographic manuscript of 1680 from the collection of the Bibliothèque du Service Historique de la Marine at Vincennes: Recueil des cartes des costes de Catalogne et des Isles de Majorque, Minorque et Yvice. Discusses it as evidence of the naval policy of Louis XIV and Colbert; and attributes the text to the royal engineer Charles Pène or his brother Pierre, the calligraphy to Charles Gilbert, and the watercolor illustrations (maps, allegorical embellishments, and views of ports and fortifications) to Sylvain Bonnet and Pierre Bedeau.
