Identifies the mosaics of athletes' heads from the Baths of Caracalla (now in the Vatican, Rome) as the source for the Athlete's Head by Klee, 1932 (New York, Metropolitan Museum); discusses Klee's experiences in Rome, 1901-1902, and notes other works by him reflecting these mosaics.
