Abstract (en)

Reviewer argues that Poyner has failed to grasp Coates's strategies as a designer and so does not provide an intellectual context for the realized projects of Branson Coates; comments on Arad's investigations of the capacity of everyday objects to embody radical intentions; and deplores the populist format used in both books to describe work that is itself a comment on the way our culture is represented by its artefacts.
