Abstract (en)

Identifies one of the texts in the open book represented in the Portrait of a Young Man by Bronzino (Milan, Civiche Raccolte d'Arte di Castello Sforzesco) as a sonnet dedicated to Lorenzo Menzi by Benedetto Varchi; and on this basis identifies Lenzi as the subject of the portrait and the portrait as one mentioned by Vasari, and proposes a date ca.1528. Gives a history of the long friendship between Varchi and Lenzi.
