Ideological interpretation of two building types--the hall church and the basilica. Regards the hall church as "bourgeois-democratic" while the basilica represents secular and ecclesiastical power. Discusses in this context two 13th c. German churches: Marienkirche, Lübeck (basilica), and Elisabethkirche, Marburg (hall church).
