Abstract (en)
Study about conceptions of the primitive that drive the modern and the post-modern across a wide range of fields and levels of culture: anthropology, psychology, literature and art--and also advertising, fashions, television series and fads. It is about the primitive as a modern and post-modern obsession and cliché. Particular attention given to the writings of Roger Fry, issues of sexuality, and the theories of Sigmund Freud.
