Abstract (en)
Concludes that in designating Turner's accomplishment during the last 15 years of his career a late "style," we should be careful to recognize that it is not so much a mode of expression as it is the fulfillment of Turner's substantial expectations that landscape painting--and particularly classical landscape painting--could become a vehicle of inquiry into both the nature of art and the world around us.
