The speech, Nov 1988, covered Hardy Amies's career as fashion designer, 1930-1988, and was delivered together with the presentation of diplomas to four new recipients of the Distinction of Royal Designers for Industry: Norman Foster, Betty Jackson, Bill Moggridge and Ronald Searle, as well as to six new recipients of the Honorary Distinction: Armin Hofmann (Switzerland), Issey Miyake (Japan), Josef Müller-Brockmann (Switzerland), Vuokko Nurmesniemi (Finland), Richard Sapper (Germany), and Roland Topor (France).
