Abstract
(en)
Surveys the situation of the Académie royale (Paris) in the 17th c., focusing on the role and the professional and social aims of artists and on the Académie's relationship to the painters' guild and to the monarchy; notes the decisive role of Colbert, who understood better than the king how the monarchy could profit from the arts.
