Considers the chronology of Piero's frescoes (Arezzo, S. Francesco) in the light of their evident influence on a predella representing scenes from the life of S. Nicholas by Giovanni di Francesco. Giovanni's death in 1459 provides a terminus ante quem for the Arezzo frescoes of 1458, the year in which Piero went to Rome. On the other hand reflections of the Arch of Constantione in the Arezzo battle scenes suggest the possibility that Piero visited Rome prior to 1458.
