American edition of the catalogue of the exhibition held 8 Mar-3 Sept at the British Museum, London, illustrating fakes and forgeries from a period covering three millennia and including 335 artifacts--fine arts, collectibles, consumer goods, and documentary materials--from all over the world. Essays and catalogue entries consider issues concerning definition of forgeries, replicas, and copies, as well as collecting and connoisseurship, taste, and the market.
