Abstract (en)

An account of methodology and examples of the conservation of historic textiles, with a brief excursus on the training of textile conservators, by the director of the textile conservation atelier of the Abegg-Stiftung Bern (from whose collection most of the examples are taken). The reviewer focuses on issues of judgment resulting from the institute's policy of rehabilitating each object's original and functional unity as far as feasible.
