Describes efforts to prevent the sale of Antonio Canova's Three Graces (1817) which is currently housed in the temple built for it by Jeffry Wyatville at Woburn Abbey. The Bedfordshire County Council has proposed that the sculpture be considered a fixture within a listed building; this would make any sale illegal and render the piece effectively valueless. Author considers the ramifications of such a decision and argues that the "fixture" law is not an appropriate means for retaining works of art in an historical context.
