Excerpt from introduction to the the recently published book Remembering a Pittsburgh steel mill. The book is an account of the razing in the early 1980s of the Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation blast furnace Eliza (built 1859), and consists principally of photographs by Mark Perrott.
