Discusses Giersing's painting which was acquired by the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (Copenhagen) in 1983. Considers his use of "coarse materials" for the painting and frame, suggesting as influences both Cézanne and Die Brücke. Notes also the inspiration of Titian's Venus and Cupid in the Uffizi.
