Abstract (en)

In light of plans to move the British Library from its present location to a new, purpose-built structure near S. Pancras station, proposes that Sydney Smirke's domed Reading Room be converted to the great central hall of the British Museum, thus providing an architectural focal point and easier access to the museum's galleries.
