Looks at Chinoiserie decoration in 18th c. Britain, especially wallpapers and bed hangings for dressing rooms and bedrooms. Argues that the lightness of these interiors contributed to a more general lightening of taste in the 1750s and 1760s, and encouraged the fashions for printed cotton and painted furniture in the late 1760s and 1770s.
