Attempts to trace the introduction and longevity of certain silk fabrics purchased for the royal household. Utilizes the range of documents (principally in the Public Record Office) known as the Great Wardrobe. All the silks were imported. Monnas notes her discovery that the technique of weaving velvet cloths of gold was already very advanced by the early 15th c. Appended extracts from the Enrolled Accounts.
