Seeks to ascertain what was so novel about these Old Testament cycles, and asks why the stories of men and women of the Old Dispensation should have appealed so much to the print-buying public at this time. Focuses on prints 1540s-1550s, especially works by Heinrich Aldegrever and Georg Pencz.
