Abstract (en)

Surveys Aertsen's paintings and discusses the problems involved in defining his oeuvre. Argues that it is important to realize that he was an entrepreneur with a workshop and a number of assistants, in which free use was made of existing models and new inventions. It is therefore difficult to restrict his oeuvre to autograph paintings.
