Countering criticisms expressed in a letter by S. Stevenson in History of photography, 1989, 13, no 3, p. 267-268, and referring to his own article in the same journal 1988, 12, no 4, p. 295-316, the author defends his views on the context of the Tartan Album of calotypes by John and Robert Adamson (Lacock, Fox Talbot Museum of Photography), and especially the relationship between Robert Adamson and David Brewster.
