Abstract (en)

Argues that the figure twined around the tree in Michelangelo's Temptation and Expulsion (Rome, Vatican, Sistine Chapel) is Lilith, and reexamines the iconography of the scene in this light, citing the influence of the cabala and the cabalistic writings of Pico della Mirandola on Michelangelo.
