Abstract (en)

Proposes that Ludwig Mies van der Rohe conceived of his German Pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition as a landscape. Discusses the Pavilion within the picturesque landscape tradition, noting that the Pavilion like the garden represents a break with reality yet poses itself as an alternative reality.
