Abstract (en)

On the basis of recently discovered correspondence 1769-1771 between diplomats Robert Richie and John Murray, describes the financial difficulties faced by Smith during the last years of his life in Italy. Discusses the subsequent disposition of Smith's estate including the sale of his Italian properties and objects in his collection.
