Writes to oppose Italian foreign minister Gianni De Michelis's scheme for mounting Expo 2000 in Venice, arguing that the world's fair would have a disastrous effect on the fabric of the city. Also questions inspector general Yves Boiret's decision to rebuild the late-Medieval mirandes in S. Sernin, Toulouse. These had been suppressed by Viollet-le-Duc during his 1860s-1870s restoration in favor of a new Romanesque-style cornice. Demonstrates that Viollet-le-Duc was responding to physical evidence of an apparently Romanesque parapet and roof line predating the mirandes.
