Abstract (en)

Comments on a key aspect of the current art gallery scene in New York City, namely the efforts of many gallery owners to turn living artists into living legends. Cites the Salander-O'Reilly Gallery's new space and their exhibition of Kenneth Noland paintings (fall, 1989). Finds fault with the renewed attention given to 1960s formalist Color-field painters and with artists like David Reed whose new-wave formalism relates to those earlier examples.
