Comparison of the Viennese fin-de-siècle exhibitions held in 1985/6 in Venice, Vienna, Paris, and New York, and their critical reception in these locations. Vienna, covering 1870-1930, celebrated Austrian national identity; Paris, covering 1870-1938, emphasized German roots and the origins of Nazism; New York offered only a passing effort at contextualization.
