Details some of the events in France organized to celebrate the bicentennial of the French Revolution. Gives credit for the success of the celebration to French president François Mitterand and Jean-Paul Goude, creator of the 14th of July parade. Cites two exhibitions in Paris which highlighted the symbolic significance of the bicentennial: 1789: The National Assembly, at the Palais Bourbon; La Traversée de Paris, at the Arch at La Défense.
