Abstract (en)
Identifies a numbering system found on the verso of drawings as being (the 18th c.) Cats's own. In the past these numbers have been confused with those of an inventory system employed by the Goll van Franckenstein family of collectors. States that the presence of such a number on a drawing attests to its being autograph Cats, and on this basis makes at least one new attribution. Speculates that the numbered Cats drawings may have constituted individual sheets in some sort of pattern or sample book from which potential clients or the artist could select subjects to be carried out in a more finished manner.
