Refers to Homan Potterton's review of the Canaletto exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum, New York (Burlington, 1990, 132, no 1042, Jan). Potterton questioned the attribution of two paintings in the exhibition: San Cristoforo, San Michele and Murano from the Fondamente Nuove, Venice (Dallas, Museum of Art) and Entrance to the Grand Canal: Looking East (Mr. and Mrs. A. Alfred Taubman Collection). Baetjer argues that both are authentic Canalettos datable to the mid-1720s.
