Reports on the upcoming sale of the Badminton cabinet--a pietra dura piece made in Italy 1726-1728 for the 3d Duke of Beaufort (Badminton, Gloucestershire). Expresses dismay that national institutions and Britain's National Heritage Memorial Fund likely do not have the funds to secure the cabinet, or other important objects, at auction.
