Abstract (en)

Discusses a previously unpublished watercolor by Palmer, The Comet of 1858, as Seen from the Skirts of Dartmoor (London, private collection). Demonstrates that the picture can be dated with great precision to early Oct 1858, around the fifth day of the month, owing to Palmer's unusual astronomical accuracy.
