Abstract (en)

Argues that the Annunciation attributed to Dirck Bouts which was purchased by the Getty Museum (Malibu) in 1985 is a 20th c. fake executed by two different hands--one more capable than the other. Offers a different interpretation of the x-ray published by the Getty's conservation team in Burlington, 1988, 130, no 1024 (July). Also asserts that the picture exhibits compositional and iconographic inconsistencies.
