On the basis of an inscription giving the sitter's age as seven, confirms that the painting of 1603 now in the National Maritime Museum, London, represents Elizabeth, the daughter of James VI of Scotland. Discusses the landscape background, and argues that the London picture was made as a companion to Peake's double portrait of Elizabeth's brother, Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales, and Sir John Harington (New York, Metropolitan Museum).
