Abstract (en)

Elucidates the iconographic scheme, devised by Bess of Hardwick, of the plaster frieze in the High Great Chamber of Hardwick New Hall, Derbyshire (1590s). Concludes that it symbolizes the just and virtuous rule of Queen Elizabeth I.
