Analyzes Rivera's 1929-1935 mural of The History of Mexico: From the Conquest to the Future (Mexico City). Discusses iconography in the context of the ideological struggle occasioned by the government's espousal of capitalism and turning away from revolutionary social reform. Addresses the themes of nationalism and ritual.
