Abstract (en)
Establishes partial provenances for two paintings which appear in a ca.1770 inventory of Montagu House, the former Buccleuch residence in London: Andrea Mantegna's Esther and Mordecai or A Sibyl and a Prophet (Cincinnati, Art Museum) and Leonardo's Madonna of the Yarnwinder or Madonna dei Fusi (Collection of the Dukes of Buccleuch and Queensberry, Drumlanrig). The Mantegna appears in a 1603 inventory of Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini's collection; it passed to Cardinal Benedetto Pamphili by 1710. The Leonardo appeared in the 1756 auction of the Duc de Tallard's collection.
