Discusses two versions of Bellini's Assassination of S. Peter Martyr (London, Courtauld Institute Galleries and National Gallery). Stimulated by recent technical examination of the two panels, makes observations on Bellini's literary and visual sources, and possible patrons. Argues that the National Gallery version was painted ca.1507-1508 and the Courtauld version ca.1509.
