On the development and decline of a collection of landscape photographs purchased 1890s-1920s for use as illustrations in Harvard University geology classes. By 1916 the collection included more than 7700 photographs. In 1962 Eastman House (Rochester) acquired 350 images. About 1000 views of New England remain in the Kummel Library of Geological Sciences at Harvard (Cambridge). More than 6000 photos have disappeared.
