Paintings and drawings by Novelli and other Baroque painters in Palermo and environs. Includes essays on the artistic climate in Sicily after the Council of Trent, on Novelli's artistic development (including his work as an architect) and critical fortunes, on the urban development of 17th c. Palermo, and on 17th c. Flemish painters in western Sicily. Also includes restoration information, reproductions of watermarks, and transcriptions of documents on Novelli (1622-1647) and other artists (1619-1659).
