Describes a traditional building technique, 16th-19th cs., used in the rural houses of the Monferrato highlands: a ceiling composed of a series of solai (horizontal structural panels) of gesso under the wooden roof, where they retained heat and provided insulation against fire as well as a decorative function. Illustrates examples from a collection in the new Museo di arti e tradizioni popolari, Magliano Alfieri.
