Describes 12 common-rafter roofs in parish churches, and one in a house, which have features characteristic of the 12th and 13th cs. Also lists fragmentary examples and others relevant for comparative purposes. Survival rates are compared with those in Essex and Belgium, and suggests that details of assembly give clues to parallel changes in timber framed buildings, which had radical consequences.
