Presents results of two excavations and two watching briefs. Investigations emphasized good preservation of town's archaeological deposits, especially those of the 13th and 14th cs. Indications were that the western periphery of the town was not built up until the 17th to 18th cs. Pottery (13th-17th cs.) was notable for the range of imports, and for one of the best stratified assemblages known from the county, dating to ca.1200-1300 and to the late 15th and 16th cs. Other finds included a pilgrim's medieval ampulla and painted window glass from 15th to 18th c. contexts.
