Abstract (en)

Describes fragment of shaft of decorated free standing cross, 8th or 9th c., discovered recently in large enclosure during fieldwork, and draws attention to other large enclosures in County Monaghan which may belong to the Early Christian period. Two ballaun stones were recorded at Kilnahalter, undated but well known features of early ecclesiastical sites. Appends distribution map of pre-Norman ecclesiastical sites in County Monaghan.
