Abstract (en)
Part of Early Christian period cemetery uncovered. Pieces of oak log-coffin from one of 14 shallow graves was excavated. Uncertainties with interpretation of both documentary sources and radiocarbon dating is discussed, but concludes that a cemetery has been identified, perhaps dating from the 6th or 7th c. May be part of site called Fertae Martyrum in Muirchú's later 7th c. Life of S. Patrick. Presence of early burials adds substance to the documentary tradition that the first ecclesiastical site in Armagh lay here.
